October 14, 2009: GEORGETOWN – GUYANA: Guyana’s number one mobile communications provider, Digicel, has announced a three year partnership with the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha (GHDS). The three year sponsorship agreement is further demonstration of Digicel’s commitment to the development of Guyana’s rich cultural heritage.

During the signing ceremony at Digicel’s main office on Tuesday, the company’s CEO, Gregory Dean, said “the partnership is designed to support the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha with cultural initiatives that engage the Guyanese society in celebration of our traditions. Digicel is delighted to be on board with this non profit organization. We have worked with the GHDS previously on a number of initiatives and we certainly look forward to a successful relationship.”

Digicel will be working closely with the GHDS on a number of festivals and events including the countrywide Diwali motorcade, Phagwah, Indian Immigration Day and Naya Zamana.

General Secretary of the Guyana Hindu Dhamic Sabha, Chandra Gajraj, said “the GHDS is very pleased that Digicel has recognized the organization’s efforts to promote the development of Guyana’s culture. With this three year sponsorship, we will be better able to contribute meaningfully to the development of Guyana.”

Digicel is sponsoring the Dharmic Nujawaan in the grand motorcade set for Friday evening. The motorcade will take off from the Rama Krishna Mandir in Campbellville and will culminate at the LBI Community Centre Ground where judging will take place.
