DIGICEL TAKES FIRST WORLD SERVICE TO ITUNI
March 7th 2011 - DIGICEL TAKES FIRST CLASS SERVICE TO ITUNIMARCH 07, 2011 – GEORGETOWN, GUYANA: Digicel, Guyana’s leading mobile communications provider has taken its first world service to residents of Ituni and surrounding communities. The telecommunications giant launched its state-of-the-art network in Ituni over the week-end.
Speaking at the launch, Digicel CEO, Gregory Dean said, “Digicel’s launch in Ituni is important since it not only forms the link from Ituni to Kwakwani, but will ultimately be one of the key links to sites along the road to Lethem,” Dean said.
“We are very pleased to provide the residents of Ituni and surrounding communities with the best network, best value, best innovation and best service, “ Dean said.
Minister of Agriculture, Robert Persaud who was present at the commissioning told residents of Ituni that “the move by Digicel to expand its service in rural communities across Guyana is significant in the development of Guyana’s telecommunications industry.” According to Minister Persaud, “Telecommunications is a catalyst for economic development.”
During the launch, Digicel contributed two sewing machines to the Ituni Women in Action group. The female cricket and football teams and the Ituni Community High School also received donations from the telecommunications giant. As part of the launch activities, residents also got a chance to purchase phones at reduced rates.
